Becoming a mom has been the most beautiful and life-changing experience of my life. I’m so grateful to be a boy mom, and I’m soaking in every moment with my sweet son, Maximilian Konrad. I’ll be honest—these early days have been exhausting. I’m tired, often running on matcha lattes and pure love, but nothing compares to those quiet moments when it’s just the two of us. Even through the sleepless nights and the constant guessing game of what he needs, it’s all worth it.
When it came time for newborn photos, we did things a little differently. Instead of the typical 5 to 14 days, we waited until Maximilian was just about five weeks old, and honestly, it was perfect for us. I had a challenging birth experience and needed a bit more time to heal and feel like myself again. I’m so grateful I gave myself that grace—it made all the difference. Our photographer was wonderful and had no problem capturing these moments a bit later than expected. The photos turned out beautifully, capturing the real, tender love we share as a family.
When to Do Newborn Photos
Most people will tell you that the ideal time for newborn photos is within the first 5 to 14 days. During this window, babies are usually sleepier and more likely to curl up into those sweet, squishy poses. But if there’s one thing I’ve learned in these first few weeks of motherhood, it’s that there’s no “one size fits all.”
If you’re not ready to do photos right away, that’s okay. Whether you take them at one week or five weeks, you’ll still be able to capture those soft, sleepy moments. The most important thing is to listen to your body and wait until you feel comfortable and at your best. Trust me, when you feel good, it shows in the photos—and they’ll feel like the sweetest memories when you look back on them.
My Advice on Newborn Photos
If you’re considering newborn photos, my advice is to do what feels right for you. Don’t stress about the “perfect” timing. I absolutely recommend getting those newborn photos taken, but make sure you feel like your best self. If you’re not ready a few weeks after birth, that’s okay—wait until you feel comfortable and more like you again. Whenever you decide to take them, these moments are so special, and your photos will feel like a little piece of your heart, captured forever.
Looking through Maximilian’s newborn photos, I can’t help but smile. These aren’t just pictures—they’re a little time capsule of the sweet, sleepy, messy, love-filled days we’re living right now. I know I’ll hold onto these memories forever, and my heart feels so full knowing I’ll always have these moments to look back on.
