I love summers in Paris because there is always an occasion for an impromptu picnic. It’s so easy to do because there are so many fromageries, patisseries, and bakeries around. Also, you’ll find a lovely park or garden in almost every part of the city. If you can’t make it to Paris this year, you can always host a French-inspired picnic in your backyard or a beautiful garden in your neighborhood. Read on to learn how to recreate a French-inspired picnic without traveling to Paris this summer.

The Essentials

A French picnic “table” is always set with real plates, silverware, and even cloth napkins. I always bring a charcuterie board and cheese knives to my picnic too.

It’s also a good idea to bring a blanket, something that is lightweight and foldable. I recommend finding a chic blanket that is waterproof on one side which helps to protect you if you come into contact with water. I love this chic and modern pink picnic blanket from Amazon.

The Menu

A traditional French picnic is not complete without cheeses (I love brie with truffles and camembert), a perfect baguette, butter, and artisanal ham. If you’re looking for a more filling meal, you can always choose to bring a classic niçoise salad or a French bistro salad.

For dessert, a selection of fruits is the typical choice for most French picnics. Don’t forget the bottle of wine—rosé, sauvignon blanc, or champagne.
